Australia and Uzbekistan have been officially designated as the hosts of the 2026 and 2029 editions of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. The decision was made by the AFC Executive Committee during its third meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, on the eve of the 34th AFC Congress. This ratification follows the recommendations put forth by the AFC Women’s Football Committee.
Expressing his congratulations, AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa remarked;
“On behalf of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), I would like to thank the other three initial bidders for the 2026 edition – Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan – for submitting their interests. I offer our sincere congratulations to Football Australia and the Uzbekistan Football Association on being confirmed as hosts of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2026 and 2029 respectively.”
Shaikh Salman emphasized the progress of women’s football in Asia in recent years, citing the forthcoming launch of the AFC Women’s Champions League as a step forward. He anticipates this development will elevate the standards of women’s football competitions for years to come.
Australia, having recently co-hosted the FIFA Women’s World Cup, will host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the second time in its history. The nation previously hosted the event in 2006. In contrast, Uzbekistan will mark a historic moment as the first Central Asian nation to organize the tournament.
Shaikh Salman expressed confidence in the vibrancy and competitiveness of the 2026 edition in Australia, citing the palpable passion for women’s football in the country. He anticipates Uzbekistan will exceed expectations in 2029, setting a new standard for the tournament.
“We wish the respective Local Organising Committee of both Member Associations the very best of success in their planning and preparation,” stated Shaikh Salman. He concluded by expressing the confidence of the Asian football family in Football Australia and the Uzbekistan Football Association to further elevate the stature and growth of women’s football in the continent.
