The 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) witnessed the active participation of the Kyrgyz Republic delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aibek Moldogaziev, in Banjul, Gambia. With the theme "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development," the summit convened from May 2 to May 5, aiming to address pressing global challenges and foster cooperation among member states.
Pivotal documents such as the Banjul Declaration and Final Communiqué were adopted, reflecting the collective efforts of member states to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development. At the behest of the Kyrgyz delegation, the Final Communiqué incorporated key points on international initiatives championed by the Kyrgyz Republic, particularly focusing on disarmament and mountain-related issues.
Furthermore, garnering unanimous support, the Final Communiqué endorsed the candidacy of the Kyrgyz Republic for Non-permanent Membership of the UN Security Council for the term 2027-2028.
In his address to the summit, Deputy Minister Aibek Moldogaziev underscored the imperative of proactive engagement in the contemporary international landscape to consolidate efforts in crisis resolution and advance socio-economic and humanitarian endeavors. Expressing apprehension over the prevailing geopolitical complexities, Moldogaziev emphasized the significance of concerted action to mitigate tensions and seek diplomatic solutions to conflicts.
Parallel to advocating for its UN Security Council candidacy and fostering bilateral relations, the Kyrgyz delegation seized the opportunity to conduct a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from OIC member states. These engagements aimed at reinforcing mutual understanding and cooperation on regional and global issues of common interest.
