Uzbekistan's Andijan region inaugurated a new cement plant, a project facilitated by collaboration between Chinese corporations Conch International Holdings and Zhejiang Shangfeng Building Materials. These partners contributed a direct investment of $250 mn to this initiative.
This facility is projected to produce approximately 2.5 mn tons of cement annually. This capacity enhancement is part of Uzbekistan’s broader cement industry, which reported a total output of 15.5 mn tons in 2023. Last year, the per capita cement consumption in Uzbekistan was recorded at 431 kilograms, below the global average of 510 kilograms in 2022.
Despite advances in production, Uzbekistan’s cement consumption per capita remains lower than in several other countries. For instance, nations such as China, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Turkey, Russia, and the USA have per capita consumption rates ranging from 280 to 1490 kilograms. The data from 2017 to the present shows a 74.1% increase in production volume and a 55.6% rise in production per capita in Uzbekistan, indicating the potential for further industry growth.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan's major enterprises produced 627,900 tonnes of cement in January 2024. This represents a notable increase, more than doubling the output from the same period in the previous year.
