Gulrakat Mirzoyeva, the mother of Dalerjon Mirzoyev, a suspect in the Crocus City Hall attack in Moscow, firmly denies her son's involvement. "A man with a gun who cuts someone's throat is not my child," she stated, noting discrepancies in body type and behaviour between the attackers and her son. "Those who attacked are fat and my child is thin. The gait and movements of the attackers do not resemble my son," she added, highlighting a video where her son appeared beaten and restrained, the ASIA-Plus reports.
Background and employment of Dalerjon Mirzoyev
Dalerjon Mirzoyev, 32, hails from Galakhona village in the Rudaki District and has been implicated as one of the four primary suspects in the incident. His family, unlike others connected to the suspects, has been open with journalists, consistently proclaiming his innocence.
According to his family, Dalerjon moved annually to Russia for work since finishing school, spending about 7-8 months each year before returning. His recent activities involved working as a driver in Novosibirsk, although he did not earn significant sums. "In the last six months, he sent 2-3 thousand somoni. If he had a good job, he would send more money," his relatives explained.
Gulrakat recounted a conversation with Dalerjon shortly before the attack, in which he expressed concerns over his expiring documents and potential deportation, planning a return to Tajikistan. Shortly after, the attack occurred.
Following the incident, the Mirzoyev family was interrogated by the authorities, a process that included a re-interview of Gulrakat after a televised confession was broadcast, supposedly showing Dalerjon naming a coordinator for the attack. The family challenges the authenticity of this confession, suggesting that Dalerjon was unfamiliar with the Russian language and was reading a prepared statement.
Physical incompatibility with alleged actions
Dalerjon's father, Barot Mirzoyev, also defended his son, describing him as physically incapable of handling the weaponry described by authorities. "He is very short in stature, he can't hold a machine gun, how could he do such things?" he questioned.
Community members and educators from Dalerjon's village describe him as a generally good person who was unlikely to engage in such extreme acts. "He participated in public affairs, was disciplined, and had good behaviour," noted Muzaffar Yakubov, a history teacher.
Adding to the family's trials, Dalerjon's older brother, Ravshanjon, has been missing since 2016. Family members were informed that he might have joined ISIS in Syria, a claim they find hard to believe. "We know that he was discharged from the hospital, but so far there has been no news - whether he is alive or dead," his mother lamented.
Following the incident, several citizens of Tajikistan were arrested on suspicion of involvement. The Khorasan branch of ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. Concurrently, Russian special services have suggested Ukraine's involvement, a claim that Ukraine has formally denied.
