The industry experienced a 7.4% increase in output during the first two months of 2024, with contributions from mechanical engineering, metallurgy, chemistry, and light industry sectors. Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapaev presented the impressive growth of Kazakhstan's manufacturing industry to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Akorda reported.
Minister Sharlapaev's report highlighted the robust progress made in various sectors, underlining plans for further industrial development, geology, subsoil use, and construction initiatives. The government aims to introduce 180 projects valued at KZT 1.5 trillion ($3.7bn), which is expected to generate approximately 17,800 employment opportunities.
Regarding construction, the Minister disclosed that 172,000 housing units are slated for construction this year, building upon the success of last year's completion of 157,000 units. Over KZT 300bn ($672.9mn) has been allocated for the construction of 22,000 rental apartments, with an additional program set to offer KZT 300bn ($672.9mn) through Otbasy Bank, facilitating 12,000 mortgage loans for citizens.
President Tokayev was apprised of the implementation of the digital platform E-Qazyna.kz, aimed at enhancing transparency and accessibility in auctions for subsoil use rights. The participation of major global entities like Rio Tinto and Fortescue underscores heightened competition for exploration rights in Kazakhstan's potentially resource-rich deposits.
Furthermore, the president was briefed on the Ministry's initiatives to aid those affected by recent floods, with efforts underway to finalize the cost and documentation for constructing new housing in the disaster-stricken regions. President Tokayev emphasized the urgency of restoring housing for those displaced by the natural disaster, directing immediate action in this regard.
