In a trilateral meeting held in Kashgar, China, Akylbek Zhaparov, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers-Head of the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, asserted Kyrgyzstan's readiness to serve as a vital conduit for fostering trade and economic partnerships between Central and Western Asian nations, the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov of Uzbekistan and Ma Xingrui, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Party Committee of the XUAR, focused on bolstering cooperation among Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and China.
Zhaparov highlighted the historical significance of Xinjiang, describing it as a gateway to China for Kyrgyzstan and vice versa, thereby positioning Kyrgyzstan as a pivotal link between China and several Central Asian nations. He underscored the importance of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project in enhancing trade and economic ties among the three countries. Zhaparov revealed that a technical and economic plan for the railway project has been developed and approved, signaling a tangible step towards its realization.
Moreover, Zhaparov addressed the pressing need to enhance the efficiency of the Irkeshtam checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border, citing its insufficient capacity as a hindrance to seamless trade flows. He advocated for modernizing checkpoints and bolstering customs control infrastructure to accommodate increased cargo throughput, with plans to install modern inspection complexes capable of handling up to 125 vehicles per hour at key border checkpoints.
Zhaparov further proposed negotiations on the development of multimodal transport routes, emphasizing the potential for cross-border e-commerce and the establishment of economic development belts around border zones. He expressed confidence in the collective efforts of Kyrgyzstan, China, and Uzbekistan to advance their multifaceted partnership.
Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov of Uzbekistan echoed Zhaparov's sentiments, emphasizing the historic significance of the trilateral meeting and expressing Uzbekistan's keen interest in enhancing trade ties and supporting the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
Ma Xingrui, representing China, voiced support for Kyrgyzstan's proposals and affirmed China's commitment to fostering bilateral and multilateral relations with its neighboring countries.
Concluding the meeting, the parties agreed to sustain cooperation and convene regular meetings to further deepen their economic and trade partnerships.
