The possibility of opening a trade mission of Turkmenistan in Japan is being discussed, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan reports. The talks were held at a joint business forum in Tokyo, Japan, attended by 130 delegates.
The event was co-organised by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). The Turkmen side also made a proposal to open a JETRO office in Ashgabat. The parties outlined promising areas for business partnership in fuel and energy, gas and chemicals, textiles, food, agriculture, transport and logistics, and banking.
The forum included a presentation of the Turkmenistan National Pavilion project at the upcoming EXPO-2025 world exhibition in Osaka, Japan.
Earlier, the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Japan expressed support for the expediency of holding a meeting of the heads of the two states this year. Experts told Daryo that the impetus for bilateral business partnership was given by the official visit of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Ashgabat in October 2015, which resulted in the conclusion of agreements worth $18bn.
Japanese companies have implemented major projects here in the gas chemical industry and gas turbine power generation, as well as supplied specialised equipment for projects in the fuel and energy complex, transport and water resources management.
