Batyr Annaev has been appointed head of the Turkmen Sea and River Routes Agency. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the decision of the general meeting of the agency's shareholders, the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" reports.
The agency is a central executive body in the field of water transport, authorised in the field of state management in the field of commercial navigation and implementation of state policy in the field of water transport in Turkmenistan.
In particular, the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi is located at the crossroads of transnational cargo routes from Europe to Asia.
Experts say the country's efforts are aimed at unlocking the potential of international transport by all modes of transport, including rail, road, air and the creation of logistics terminals in hubs, one of which could be the port of Turkmenbashi.
Ashgabat is in favour of creating an extensive network of combined East-West and North-South logistics infrastructure, including transit corridors to the Caspian, Black and Baltic Sea regions.
In particular, there is talk of a transport corridor from China through Central Asia to the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea, as well as to Iran and the Middle East. This corridor can also be used in the opposite direction - to the Asia-Pacific region, South Asian countries.
