A delegation from Turkmenistan visiting the port of Abu Dhabi (UAE) met with representatives of AD Ports Group, reports the Turkmenbashi Seaport Administration.
The parties discussed the implementation of investment projects and prospects for cooperation in transport, logistics and port infrastructure development. The Turkmen side was represented by Batyr Annaev, Deputy Director of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of the country, and Merdan Byashimov, General Director of the Transport and Logistics Centre of Turkmenistan (TULM).
"The meeting focused on introducing the UAE's best practices in port management and digitalisation, as well as cooperation in maritime transport."
The Turkmendenizderyayollary (Turkmen Sea and River Routes) agency had previously proposed that AD Ports Group invest in the construction of new vessels at the Caspian shipyard. The possibility of transferring the container terminal of the international seaport in the city of Turkmenabashi to the trust management of AD Ports Group was also discussed.
The annual throughput capacity of the Turkmenbashi port, which will be opened in 2018, is 17mn tonnes. This will provide Turkmenistan with optimal opportunities for shipping goods from the Asia-Pacific region to Europe.
