Uzbekistan allocates $1.3 bn for entrepreneurship to secure employment
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan convened a meeting on March 7 to deliberate on strategies aimed at elevating the income levels of citizens and mitigating poverty across the nation, press service of the president reported.
In a concerted effort to address unemployment, Uzbekistan has been diligently implementing various economic programs. These initiatives encompass robust support for small businesses and entrepreneurship, coupled with the establishment of enterprises in regional areas. Moreover, professional educational institutions and "Ishga Merhamat" monocenters are equipping the populace with modern skills and foreign language proficiency to enhance employability.
With an ambitious target to secure employment for 5 mn individuals and entice 2 mn individuals towards entrepreneurship this year, the government has spared no effort in providing comprehensive organizational and financial backing. Notably, an allocation of UZS 16 trillion ($1.3 bn) has been earmarked for these purposes, supplemented by an additional UZS 1.4 trillion ($112 mn) from entities such as the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment, Neighborhood Employment Agency, and Farmers' Council funds.
The focal point now resides in efficiently leveraging these resources at the grassroots level to engender income-generating opportunities for the populace. President Mirziyoyev's directive underscores the urgency to devise novel mechanisms, exemplified by initiatives in the Gallaorol and Sharof Rashidov districts of the Jizzakh region, which promise expeditious results. These pilot projects are slated to serve as blueprints for replication across all regions.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, J. Kochkarov, unveiled innovative strategies tailored for the aforementioned districts, along with actionable proposals for their execution. Key among these measures is the deployment of economic complex organization heads to each neighborhood. Tasked with engaging directly with impoverished families, these officials will spearhead efforts to augment household income by facilitating access to affordable loans, subsidies, and preferential resources. Moreover, clandestine business activities will be formalized, thereby bolstering official employment opportunities.
Collaborating closely with neighborhood officials, the Council of Farmers, Peasant Farms, and Homestead Land Owners is spearheading initiatives to promote lucrative crop cultivation within households. Emphasis is also placed on imparting skills to the populace, aligning with market demands, and integrating new equipment to enhance productivity.
