State Asset Management Agency of Uzbekistan (UzSAMA) has made strides in privatizing state-owned enterprises in Uzbekistan, with the sale of the state share in the third grain enterprise since the start of the year. This latest transaction on March 8, involves the 'Alpomish un Tegirmon' branch, previously under the ownership of 'Surhondaredonmahsulotlari', which has now been acquired by the Al Don Progress company for a sum of UZS 40 bn (around $3 bn).
To facilitate the sale of state shares in grain enterprises and their property complexes, a mechanism has been introduced to gradually reduce the recommended estimated value by 50%. Presently, there are 21 grain enterprises and 7 property complexes available for potential buyers to consider.
In December 2023, UzSAMA oversaw the sale of state shares in four enterprises for a total of $21.3 mn. These enterprises included Bukhorodonmakhsulotlari (51.84%), Galla-Alteg (51%), Khovos don makhsulotlari (94.2%), and Dunyo M (51.8%).
Further sales occurred in February, with one property complex sold for UZS 10 bn ($732,064) and another grain enterprise fetching UZS 14 bn (over $1 bn).
In an executive order issued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on January 16, he directed to expedite the sale of 33 grain enterprises owned by Uzdonmakhsulot by the end of the year, with prices adjusted to reflect market realities. President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to address artificially inflated prices, acknowledging that some assets had remained unsold for several years as a result.
