In a bid to bolster regional stability and cooperation, Uzbekistan is intensifying its partnership with the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reported. This strategic move was underscored during a meeting between Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, and Kaha Imnadze, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia and head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
The discussion focused on the existing cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, particularly emphasizing collaborative efforts with specialized agencies such as the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy. Key areas of mutual interest include peacekeeping, counterterrorism, leveraging the potential of women and youth in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and resolution, and the sustainable management of transboundary water and energy resources.
Uzbekistan's proactive stance in advancing initiatives supported by the international community within the UN framework, aimed at fostering stability and sustainable development, was highlighted during the meeting. The nation's commitment to human rights protection was also acknowledged, with an emphasis on practical contributions in this regard.
The dialogue highlighted the vital role of regional platforms in promoting gender equality. In just three years, platforms like the Central Asian Women's Dialogue have emerged as crucial forums for generating substantive proposals to advance gender equality, with active participation from the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy. In a bid to further enhance dialogue mechanisms, a proposal to establish a permanent dialogue secretariat in Tashkent was put forward.
Moreover, attention was drawn to harnessing the potential of youth, who constitute a significant portion of Uzbekistan's population. Discussions revolved around equipping members of the Youth Parliament under the Senate with modern tools and methods of preventive diplomacy, with a view to fostering effective collaboration with the UN Regional Center.
Kaha Imnadze commended Uzbekistan's pivotal role in promoting peace and stability within the Central Asian region. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to deepen collaboration on various regional issues, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing peace, stability, and development in Central Asia.
