Uzbekistan implements energy efficiency initiative nationwide
Uzbekistan is taking steps towards enhancing energy efficiency and promoting renewable energy sources with the introduction of Energy Efficiency Managers in all state agencies. The initiative, outlined in a draft presidential decree developed by the Ministry of Energy, aims to bolster the country's energy sector and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.
"These measures are crucial for optimizing energy consumption and transitioning towards sustainable energy practices," stated a representative from the Ministry of Energy.
The decree also mandates the introduction of key performance indicators (KPIs) to track energy resource savings and the adoption of renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, the central office of the Ministry of Energy will establish a dedicated unit tasked with analyzing energy resource consumption across all organizations and enterprises within the country, including regional and municipal departments.
"The establishment of this unit will enable us to effectively monitor and manage energy usage, paving the way for a more sustainable energy future," emphasized the Ministry spokesperson.
The regional administrations, numbering 70 in total, will play a pivotal role in implementing energy efficiency measures at the grassroots level. Each regional administration will comprise specialized personnel in electricity supply, natural gas supply, coal supply, and renewable energy sources, in addition to an Energy Efficiency Manager.
"The regional administrations will serve as vital hubs for promoting energy efficiency practices and driving the adoption of renewable energy technologies at the local level," noted officials involved in the initiative.
Funding for the activities of the regional administrations will be sourced from the Energy and Energy Network Development Fund under the Ministry of Energy, ensuring sustained support for energy efficiency initiatives. These administrations will be accommodated in existing government buildings across the regions and Tashkent city.
