On February 29, Tashkent’s Hotel Business Forum commenced with opening speakers being particularly optimistic about the hospitality sector in Uzbekistan in 2024. It was revealed that almost 7 mn tourists visited Uzbekistan in 2023, guest speaker Abrorkhuja Munavarov stated that 10 mn tourists are expected to visit Uzbekistan in 2024.
Rahel Boesch, Deputy Head of Mission, Head of Cooperation, Embassy of Switzerland in Uzbekistan had plenty of praise for the Uzbek tourism industry.
She lauded President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s UNWTO speech in October 2023 and his acknowledgement of the role of tourism in preserving cultural heritage.
On the current state of global geopolitical relations in 2024, she also emphasised “the role of tourism for furthering and fostering peace and tolerance, and respecting the values of diverse civilisations and cultures.”
Speaking on the growth of the event itself, forum moderator and founder of Tourism Lab, Temur Mirzaev said, "We hope that this year will be fruitful for participants. The geography of the participants of this event is widening each year”.
The two-day event has several local and international guest speakers discussing themes on "Global Ideas for the Development of the Hospitality Industry in Uzbekistan".
Online ratings for hotels across Central Asia, have consistently highlighted Uzbekistan as a leader in the hospitality service in the region.
The event, which is organised by the Tourism Committee under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change and the Hoteliers Association, will include talks on trends in the hospitality sector, inclusion and equality in employment as well as investment potential.
