In 2023, road accidents in Uzbekistan claimed the lives of 2,282 individuals. The country witnessed approximately 9,800 road accidents, resulting in injuries to around 9,200 people, the Senate of Oliy Majlis reported.
A significant number of these accidents, 1,794 to be precise, involved children. These incidents led to injuries for 1,568 minors and tragically, the death of 263 children.
The year also saw a staggering 16 mn traffic violations on Uzbek roads. This figure includes over 13 mn serious violations, around 42,000 instances of drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, and more than 300,000 pedestrian offences.
It was previously reported that the installation of traffic violation cameras has led to a 30% decrease in the number of accidents in the areas where they have been installed. This information was shared by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a video conference call discussing road infrastructure.
