In a comprehensive review of the recent state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China, Eldor Aripov, Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of Uzbekistan, provided insights into the pivotal outcomes of the diplomatic engagement. Aripov's remarks were delivered during the international conference titled "Uzbekistan and China: promoting mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries," held in Tashkent on February 28.
Addressing the audience during the panel session themed "All-Weather Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: a New Stage in Uzbekistan-China Relations," Aripov analyzed the milestones achieved during the summit of the two nations' leaders.
Foremost among the accomplishments, Aripov highlighted the elevation of Uzbek-Chinese relations to the level of an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era. This advancement, Aripov asserted, was underpinned by a robust legal framework comprising approximately three hundred bilateral cooperation agreements.
Furthermore, Aripov underscored the establishment of an active political dialogue across intergovernmental, interparliamentary, and interdepartmental levels. This dialogue, as evidenced by the Joint Statement issued, signifies a deep-rooted political trust that assures stability in the bilateral relationship regardless of the international dynamics.
Aripov emphasized that Uzbek-Chinese relations are founded on mutual interest, transcending geopolitical considerations for a pragmatic and mutually beneficial agenda. The agreements reached during the summit, Aripov elucidated, are geared towards tangible socio-economic outcomes, aligned with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's reform agenda for the construction of the New Uzbekistan.
Expanding cooperation into new domains emerged as another hallmark of the visit, with a notable focus on e-commerce and electric vehicles. Aripov highlighted the vast potential for Uzbek manufacturers in China's burgeoning e-commerce market, which reached a staggering $2 trillion in 2022. Moreover, the burgeoning interest in electric vehicles, exemplified by a tenfold increase in sales in Uzbekistan over three years, culminated in a partnership between Uzbekistan and BYD for joint production in the Jizzakh region.
The establishment of the Council of Regions of Uzbekistan and China following the interregional forum in Urumqi was deemed a pivotal development by Aripov. This initiative, he noted, would foster sustained regional cooperation, serving as a conduit for practical collaboration across various sectors.
The international conference, organized jointly by the International Institute for Central Asia, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Uzbekistan, ISRS under the President of Uzbekistan, and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of both countries, witnessed the participation of leaders, experts, and representatives from prominent research institutes and Chinese companies, reaffirming the commitment to deepen bilateral ties for the mutual benefit of the peoples of Uzbekistan and China.
