Yarmysh took to social media platform X to announce the transfer of Navalny's remains, expressing gratitude to those who stood in solidarity with the call for his family to receive his body.
She wrote, "Alexey’s body was given to his mother. Thank you very much to everyone who demanded this with us."
The circumstances surrounding Navalny's death have sparked controversy and raised suspicions among his supporters and international observers. Navalny, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, passed away on February 16 while serving a prison sentence. The Russian prison service initially attributed his death to complications arising from a ruptured blood clot, stating that Navalny "felt unwell after a walk and lost consciousness."
In response to mounting pressure for transparency, the Investigative Committee has initiated an examination of Navalny's body. Yarmysh and other supporters of the opposition leader have vehemently demanded the immediate handover of Navalny's remains to his family.
"While Lyudmila Ivanovna is in Salekhard. The funeral is yet to come. We don’t know whether the authorities will interfere with carrying them out the way the family wants and as Alexey deserves," Yarmysh added.
