Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova met with the President of the French-Turkmen Chamber of Commerce, Marie-Hélène Berard.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, special attention was paid to the prospects of cooperation in the water sector aimed at the preservation and rational use of the country's water resources.
The sides also highlighted the existing potential for building business partnerships in the energy sector, the oil and gas complex, transport and healthcare.
Turkmenistan, most of whose territory (3/4) is covered by sand (the Kara-Kum desert is one of the largest in the world), is supplied by the waters of the transboundary Amu Darya river, including for irrigation of agricultural crops, cotton and wheat.
Turkmenistan's Ministry of Agriculture has previously reported that France's Bouygues is interested in new irrigation projects related to the management of the Karakum Canal.
Ashgabat is proposing the creation of a series of special programmes under the auspices of the UN to finance irrigation solutions aimed at sharing the rational use of water in the region.
