Turkmenistan Airlines will launch a regular flight from Ashgabat to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from 15 March 2024, reports the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
Flights by the sole national carrier will be operated twice weekly using Boeing 777-200LR/777-300ER aircraft with 289 and 368 seats respectively. "This is expected to significantly increase the number of arrivals to Malaysia from Central Asia and Russia". Flight duration is approximately eight hours.
Turkmenistan and Malaysia exchanged embassies in 2013.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan's biggest investor is Petronas Charigali, which has invested $11bn by 2021. The company operates offshore in the Caspian Sea and is negotiating to extend its production sharing agreement until 2038.
