The Uzbekistan ambassador received a summons from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in response to remarks made by Sherzodkhon Kudratkhuja, the rector of the University of Journalism and Mass Information Communications, regarding individuals in Uzbekistan who do not speak the Uzbek language.
The Russian Ministry noted that such comments contradict the deep strategic partnership and alliance relations between Russia and Uzbekistan. They anticipate an official explanation from Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the coming days.
"We are sure that any internal or external attempts to create a quarrel between the peoples of our countries will fail," stated the Russian MFA.
Earlier, it was reported that "Rossotrudnichestvo" ceased all communication with Kudratkhuja following his statement made during an interview with the AlterEgo project, where he referred to those who do not speak the country's language as "invaders or idiots". The official was regarding citizens and residents of Uzbekistan who have been living in the country for many years, yet refuse to learn or speak the Uzbek language.
In response to the incident, various activists in Uzbekistan have voiced their opinions. Political scientist Kamoliddin Rabbimov criticized Russian imperialists and nationalists for their aggressive actions towards Uzbekistan. "Why are Russian politicians so insolent? Until now Russian imperialists and nationalists have thrown a lot of stones at Uzbekistan, and the country has not responded. Such is their mentality, the more cultured we are, the more they will feel superior. Until the state makes a serious statement, they will continue to do so," he said.
In similar developments in December 2023, the Russian writer Zakhar Prilepin's proposal for the annexation of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation, as conveyed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, was clarified as his "personal opinion," Maria Zakharova, the ministry's representative informed.
