Mironov defends Prilepin: "No sanctions against him for Uzbekistan comments”

Mironov defends Prilepin: "No sanctions against him for Uzbekistan comments”

Prilepin’s personal opinion, not party stance

Sergey Mironov, the chairman of the “Fair Russia - For Truth”(FRFT) party, has defended the controversial remarks made by Zakhar Prilepin, the co-chairman of the party, about labour migration in the Russian Federation and the annexation of Uzbekistan to Russia. Mironov clarified that Prilepin’s comments were his personal opinion and not representative of the party’s stance.

Exploring a Controversial Proposal: Russian Official @ZakharPrilepin Advocates Annexation for Population Growth Dive into the debate on territorial expansion and language integration as a solution to migrant worker challenges.🇷🇺🗣 #MigrationPolicy #AnnexationDebate… pic.twitter.com/ndOfXd6Vl5

“Zakhar Prilepin is a writer, these are his emotions. It is clear that he has nostalgia for the Soviet Union. That there was such a strong reaction in Uzbekistan and even our Foreign Ministry reacted, I was surprised. I wouldn’t attach such importance to it. There can’t be any sanctions against him,” Mironov said.

    Uzbekistan expresses deep concern

In response to Prilepin’s statement, the Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Oleg Malginov, was summoned by the Uzbek Foreign Ministry. The Russian representative was informed in a principled form that Prilepin’s proposal to join the territory of Uzbekistan to Russia was perceived with a sense of deep concern.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry expressed regret that such ill-considered statements by party leaders of a friendly country like the Russian Federation do not correspond to the spirit of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation.

    Prilepin’s controversial past

Zakhar Prilepin, a well-known writer and an ardent supporter of Russia’s campaign in Ukraine, has been a controversial figure in Russian politics. He has admitted fighting alongside pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine and has called for the "return of Kyiv to Russia". His statements have often sparked controversy and criticism, both domestically and internationally.

    Mironov’s response to the incident

Sergey Mironov, the leader of the FRFT party, called the recent car bombing incident targeting Prilepin “a terrorist act” and blamed Ukraine for it. This incident has further escalated the tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
