Prilepin’s personal opinion, not party stance
Sergey Mironov, the chairman of the “Fair Russia - For Truth”(FRFT) party, has defended the controversial remarks made by Zakhar Prilepin, the co-chairman of the party, about labour migration in the Russian Federation and the annexation of Uzbekistan to Russia. Mironov clarified that Prilepin’s comments were his personal opinion and not representative of the party’s stance.

“Zakhar Prilepin is a writer, these are his emotions. It is clear that he has nostalgia for the Soviet Union. That there was such a strong reaction in Uzbekistan and even our Foreign Ministry reacted, I was surprised. I wouldn’t attach such importance to it. There can’t be any sanctions against him,” Mironov said.
Uzbekistan expresses deep concern
In response to Prilepin’s statement, the Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Oleg Malginov, was summoned by the Uzbek Foreign Ministry. The Russian representative was informed in a principled form that Prilepin’s proposal to join the territory of Uzbekistan to Russia was perceived with a sense of deep concern.
The Uzbek Foreign Ministry expressed regret that such ill-considered statements by party leaders of a friendly country like the Russian Federation do not correspond to the spirit of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation.
