New regulations governing visa-free entry have been implemented between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan announced the enforcement of updated protocols on February 13.
The amendments, formalized through a protocol signed in Baku on August 22, 2023, during the official visit of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Azerbaijan, have officially come into effect as of January 15. Under these revised provisions, citizens of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are now entitled to extended periods of stay in each other's countries without the need for additional permits or temporary registrations.
The developments in visa regulations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan follow similar initiatives undertaken by Uzbekistan with other nations in the region. In January, the Mäjilis of Kazakhstan ratified amendments to an agreement allowing Uzbek citizens to enter Kazakhstan without the need for registration for up to 30 days, further streamlining travel between neighboring countries.
Moreover, Uzbekistan's efforts to expand visa-free travel extend beyond its immediate region. In February, the United Arab Emirates announced that citizens of Uzbekistan would be granted visa-free entry for up to 30 days, opening up new avenues for travel and economic opportunities between the two countries.
