Iran has decided to unilaterally abolish the visa regime for citizens of 28 countries, including Uzbekistan, starting February 4, 2024. This information was disclosed by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Alireza Bigdeli, as reported by IRNA.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has informed the relevant authorities about the Cabinet of Ministers’ decree to cancel visas for these 28 countries. The visa-free regime will also apply to citizens of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Serbia.
The Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan reveals that during the first 10M 2023, 632 Uzbek citizens visited Iran, of which 438 visits were for recreational purposes, while 126 were work-related.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan and the UAE have recently signed a protocol permitting Uzbek citizens to enter the UAE without a visa. The signing ceremony took place on January 16 and was attended by Abdulaziz Akkulov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Abu Dhabi, and Khalid Abdulla Belhoul, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.
This agreement is expected to impact tourism and economic relations between the two countries positively. It is noteworthy that in 2023, 119,454 Uzbek citizens visited the UAE, resulting in visa expenses amounting to $9.2mn.
