Uzbekistan detects 995 cases of illegal gas and electricity usage
Uzbekistan has intensified its efforts to combat illegal electricity and gas usage, with authorities detecting a significant number of violations in January alone. Reports from the press service of Uzenergoinspektsiya show that a total of 995 cases of illegal energy consumption were identified during the month.
To combat this rampant misuse of energy resources, Uzenergoinspektsiya conducted extensive inspection and surveillance operations across all regions of Uzbekistan. Nearly 25,000 preventive measures were implemented, targeting areas where illegal energy consumption was suspected. Additionally, 937 administrative cases were opened to address violations of energy usage regulations.
The consequences of unauthorized energy consumption extend beyond financial losses, as they also pose significant risks to energy efficiency, equipment safety, and overall infrastructure integrity. As part of the enforcement measures, inspections were conducted at various state enterprises and institutions to ensure compliance with energy efficiency standards and safety regulations.
Moreover, efforts were made to raise awareness and promote adherence to energy conservation practices among businesses and consumers. Explanatory sessions were held, particularly regarding the installation of reactive power compensating devices, with instructions provided to over 13,000 consumers to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Earlier Daryo reported that two companies in Navoi, Uzbekistan, have been found to have illegally used natural gas, resulting in substantial financial losses of 1.1 bn soums (equivalent to over $90,000) to the system. The unauthorized gas consumption was discovered during regulatory inspections carried out by "Uzenergoinspeksiya" in conjunction with the General Prosecutor's Office in the Navoi region.
