In a joint effort between the regional branch of Regional Electric Networks and law enforcement agencies, an illicit cryptocurrency mining operation was exposed in Kokand. The mining farm, situated within the premises of a family confectionery enterprise in the Margilon Darvosasi mahalla, was identified during a thorough investigation.
The owners of the confectionery workshop were found to have illicitly connected 61 mining rigs to the power grid. The operation of this unauthorized mining farm resulted in the consumption of electricity amounting to UZS 787.4mn ($63,787).
Notably, the enterprise accumulated an outstanding energy bill exceeding UZS 900mn ($72,908). Considering the elevated coefficient applied to miners, the total unpaid energy reached approximately UZS 4bn ($324,039).
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 169 of the Criminal Code, addressing theft in this context. Official records indicate that last year, 33 "gray" mining farms were uncovered in Uzbekistan, with three of them located in Kokand during the final three months of the year. The Navoi region saw the highest number of discovered farms, with the last of the four shut down in December. Additionally, three illegal mining operations were identified in Tashkent and the surrounding capital region.
