In a move to ensure the safety and quality of pharmaceutical products, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on January 31 addressing the expansion of the pharmaceutical industry and the need for enhanced regulations, the presidential press service reported. The primary focus was on providing the population with high-quality and safe medicines in the wake of the evolving landscape of pharmaceuticals globally.
Recognizing the continuous emergence of new types and compositions of medicines worldwide, President Mirziyoyev signed the Presidential Decree on January 23, regarding additional measures to regulate the pharmaceutical industry. The decree emphasizes the responsibility of organizations involved in the manufacturing and sale of drugs and medical products for the quality and safety of their products.
Under this decree, special regulations for state control over these organizations will be introduced to ensure compliance with rigorous quality and safety standards. A vital component of this initiative is the establishment of a system for the swift identification of risks associated with the consumption of drugs, coupled with prompt measures to address these concerns.
To achieve this, the "Good pharmacovigilance practices (GVP)" standard will be implemented, and a comprehensive electronic database will be developed within the Ministry of Health. This database will catalog information on the side effects of drugs, ensuring rapid dissemination to both medical professionals and residents.
In line with the new regulations, customs and free warehouses storing medicines and medical supplies will undergo a gradual alignment with the "Good Storage Practice (GSP)" rules. Additionally, the Center of Good Practices under the Pharmaceutical Network Development Agency is set to be reorganized into a state enterprise.
A noteworthy development is the establishment of a special council within the Ministry of Health, responsible for providing conclusive opinions on the advertising of drugs and biologically active supplements through television and radio channels. This move aims to ensure that any promotional materials adhere to the highest standards of accuracy and safety.
During the meeting, President Mirziyoyev underscored the critical role of the pharmaceutical industry in both public health and the national economy. He issued additional instructions to ensure the effective and timely implementation of the decree, emphasizing the government's commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the population through stringent pharmaceutical regulations.
