The United Nations forecasts that Turkmenistan's gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 5.9% in 2024. This is the highest in the Central Asian region after Uzbekistan, where the economy is expected to grow by 6.0%.
Turkmenistan's economy is expected to grow by 6.0%in 2025. These data are presented in the annual World Economic Situation and Prospects report prepared by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
According to official statistics, Turkmenistan's GDP growth was 6.3% in January-November 2023.
The country exported gas mainly to China, but also to Russia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. In the reporting period, natural gas production increased by 7.6% year-on-year, while exports rose by 13.8%.
Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are importing electricity. In the period under review, Turkmenistan's production increased by 2.7% year-on-year.
Ashgabat also exports petroleum products, polymers, synthetic gasoline and textiles.
