The Boysun district of the Surkhandarya region is currently witnessing the creation of the world’s largest suzani. This project is being undertaken by local artisans in preparation for the “Boysun Bahori” outdoor folklore festival, press service of the Surkhandarya regional government informs.
The Artisans and Their Craft
The suzani measures 31 meters in length and 5.2 meters in width. The construction of this massive piece is being led by Malika Podshoyeva, a recipient of the “Active Entrepreneur” badge. She is leading a team of 100 skilled embroiderers, who are working diligently to bring this project to life.
The team is currently engaged in printing Surkhan style "serjilo" patterns on a red cloth and selecting kalava threads dyed in natural ways.
A Look Back at Previous Achievements
This is not the first time that the craftsmen of Boysun have undertaken such a monumental task. In April 2019, a 25-meter-long, 6-meter-wide, and 60-kilogram suzani, crafted by Boysun artisans, was presented at the Bakhshi Art Festival held in Termez. This suzani, which was the largest in the world at the time, marked a significant achievement for the artisans of Boysun.
The upcoming “Boysun Bahori” outdoor folklore festival, for which the sonar is being made, is a much-anticipated event. The festival, which will be held in the oasis, is a celebration of national traditions and folklore.
