In a step towards strengthening cultural ties, Uzbekistan’s Cultural Minister, Ozodbek Nazarbekov held a pivotal meeting with the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan, Jonathan Henick, Government Portal of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.
The focal point of the meeting was the collaborative efforts between the two nations in advancing the development of teachers and professionals in the field of culture and arts. Both leaders exchanged ideas on enhancing educational programs, fostering cultural exchange initiatives, and facilitating opportunities for mutual growth in the cultural sector.
One of the key areas of discussion centered around the joint implementation of projects related to intangible cultural heritage. Minister Nazarbekov and Ambassador Henick emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting cultural traditions unique to Uzbekistan, and the United States expressed a keen interest in contributing to these efforts.
The meeting also delved into the ongoing reforms within Uzbekistan, where Minister Nazarbekov provided insights into the transformative initiatives being undertaken in the cultural and arts sector.
About Henick
Jonathan Henick, a distinguished member of the Senior Foreign Service, officially assumed the role of U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan on October 14. In his most recent assignment, he held the position of Consul General in Istanbul, Turkey. Prior to this, he demonstrated his expertise as the U.S. Department of State Chair at the College of Information and Cyberspace at the National Defense University. Henick's extensive diplomatic career includes serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia Affairs, Public Diplomacy, and Press. Notably, he played a crucial role as the Acting Deputy Coordinator of the Global Engagement Center (GEC), spearheading efforts to counter disinformation from Russia, China, and Iran.
His international assignments have taken him to diverse locations, including serving as the Counselor for Public Affairs in Turkey and Deputy Chief of Mission in Timor-Leste. Henick has received recognition for his outstanding contributions, including the Public Diplomacy Alumni Association Achievement Award and individual Superior Honor Awards from the State Department. A polyglot hailing from New York, he is fluent in Russian, Portuguese, Turkish, and Azerbaijani.
