In a bid to enhance regional security and strengthen collaborative efforts against transnational crime, the Ministers of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan convened in Astana on January 26 for a crucial meeting, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.
The central focus of the discussions revolved around strategies to ensure public safety, combat transnational organized crime, address international terrorism and extremism, and tackle the challenges posed by illegal migration.
Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Sadenov, expressed satisfaction with the overall success of cooperation in various operational areas. He highlighted numerous instances of joint efforts leading to the detection and apprehension of serious criminals. Sadenov emphasized that legal assistance is being actively provided in criminal cases, and experiences are being shared, with the most effective collaboration being observed in search operations.
The Chief Police Officer of Kazakhstan reported that in 2023, at the request of neighboring states, the country's law enforcement officers successfully detained 125 criminals. The participating ministers acknowledged the crucial importance of intensifying cooperation between their internal affairs bodies to effectively combat crime in the region.
“It is impossible to effectively fight crime with the help of only one state since almost all its manifestations are transnational in nature,” Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Ulan Niyazbekov noted.
He emphasized that coordinated joint actions and mutual trust among neighboring states are indispensable for ensuring stability and security in the region.
Minister of Uzbekistan, Polat Bobojonov, underscored the contemporary challenges and threats that necessitate consolidated efforts. He emphasized the importance of direct communication, close contacts, and practical consultations among the relevant departments to address shared security concerns effectively.
Ministers solidified their commitment to strengthened collaboration by signing a Protocol. The protocol aims to enhance the exchange of operational, statistical, and other information among the three nations. It also includes provisions for sharing methodological recommendations on organizational work, coordinating the activities of relevant departments, and facilitating joint interaction in the fight against crime. Additionally, the protocol addresses the exchange of information about individuals involved in criminal activities.
The meeting concluded in a traditionally friendly atmosphere, characterized by complete understanding and mutual respect among the participating ministers.
