Uzbekistan, a gem in Central Asia, has been gaining popularity among international tourists. In 2023, the country welcomed a total of 773,300 foreign visitors for leisure and recreation. Among these, the majority were from the Russian Federation, accounting for 235,300 people, TASS reported.
Affordability for Russian tourists
In December of the previous year, recreation in Uzbekistan for Russian tourists became more affordable, with prices dropping by 3.4% compared to November same year. This price reduction may have contributed to making Uzbekistan one of the most popular destinations for Russian tourists.
Other key markets
Apart from Russia, other significant contributors to the tourist flow were Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, with 63,400 and 43,800 visitors, respectively.
Future projections
Looking ahead, Uzbekistan’s tourism sector shows promising growth. The country witnessed a surge in foreign visitors in 2023, with a total of 6.6mn foreign citizens exploring the country, marking a notable increase of 26.9% compared to the previous year. By the end of 2023, more than 700,000 Russian tourists were travelling to Uzbekistan, and the goal for 2024 is to cross the bar of 1 mn tourists who will visit Uzbekistan’s tourist sites.
