By the end of the January, Kazakhstan is set to supply a substantial 1.2 mn tons of grain to Uzbekistan via rail. This information was reported by BaigeNews, highlighting the robust trade relationship between the two Central Asian nations.
Flour imports from Kazakhstan
In November 2023, Uzbekistan made a significant purchase of more than 440,000 tons of flour from Kazakhstan. This marked a threefold increase in imports compared to the previous year, indicating a growing demand for Kazakh flour in Uzbekistan.
In 2023, Kazakhstan witnessed a significant increase in its grain exports, reaching 9 mn tons, a rise of 1 mn tons compared to the previous year.
Grain transportation
The volume of grain transportation saw an increase of 12.7%, amounting to 11.3 mn tons. Of this, 9 mn tons were shipped for export. In addition, 3 mn tons of ground products were transported, including 2.2 mn tons destined for export. Imports of agricultural products to the Republic of Kazakhstan also saw an increase, rising by 15%.
Export plan for January 2024
As of January 2024, the main plan of export transportation has been agreed upon, amounting to 1.5 mn tons of grain cargo. Of these, 1.2 mn tons are planned to be transported through the Saryagash border crossing in the direction of Uzbekistan. In the first days of January, the delivery of trains to Uzbekistan significantly increased, while the reception of trains by the Chinese side slowed down.
Record grain transportation to China
Last year, the transportation of grain to China increased threefold compared to 2022, reaching 2.2 mn tons. The loading of grinding products also saw a 2-fold increase, amounting to 600,000 tons. This marks a record figure for the transportation of grain cargo to a neighbouring country over the past few years.
Measures to speed up delivery
KTZ-Freight Transportation has implemented measures to speed up the delivery of goods over the network. In 2023, the company purchased 113 mainline locomotives. Currently, there are enough wagons for cargo transportation in the country. Moreover, there is a surplus of empty private wagons, which occupy the access roads of shippers and complicate the shunting work.
