In a month and a half, pyrotechnic products worth almost UZS 9bn ($728,032) were seized throughout Uzbekistan, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Details of seizure
Since November 16, as part of the raids, 3,641 cases of illegal trafficking in pyrotechnic products have been registered in Uzbekistan. Consequently, pyrotechnics worth UZS 8.92bn ($721,561) were seized. A total of 1,941 offenders were brought to administrative responsibility, and 26 criminal cases were initiated.
Regional breakdown
On December 28, on the eve of the New Year, customs officers of the Syrdarya region halted the illegal turnover of 182,830 units of firecrackers and fireworks with a total value of UZS 201mn ($16,200).
In the Fergana region, the customs authorities, in collaboration with the regional Department of the State Security Service, identified 108,000 pieces of pyrotechnics worth UZS 68mn ($5,500).
Legal consequences
Following the government’s decision at the end of 2009, a temporary ban was introduced on the import into the territory of Uzbekistan, as well as the production, transportation, storage, sale, and use of pyrotechnics. Illegal activities related to pyrotechnic products entail the imposition of a fine ranging from UZS 1.7mn ($137) to UZS 6.8mn ($550), along with confiscation of offenses.
Violation of the requirements for advertising pyrotechnics, weapons, and ammunition for, military products entails the imposition of a fine of 50 times the size of the calculation basis of the allowance (UZS 17mn, or $1,375).
