In the span of 11M 2023, Uzbekistan witnessed a substantial influx of approximately 1,300 tons of pineapples, the Statistics Agency reports. This showcased a remarkable surge of 615 tons compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
During this 11-month period, Uzbekistan diversified its sources, importing pineapples from a total of 9 countries. The key players in contributing to Uzbekistan's pineapple extravaganza were:
- China: 756.5 tons
- Kazakhstan: 280.4 tons
- Costa Rica: 103.4 tons
- Kenya: 53.8 tons
- Turkey: 36.3 tons
- Ecuador: 22 tons
Notably, prices for pineapples this year are lower than prices for locally grown vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes as it is seen in the picture below. However, in 2022 the cost of one pineapple was around UZS 35,000-40,000 ($2.8-$3.2).
The report for 11M 2022 suggests that Uzbekistan received a total of 685.1 tons of pineapples, which is almost two times lower than for the corresponding period of this year. However, in comparison to 11M 2021, pineapple imports saw an increase of 31.4 tons.
The primary sources of Uzbekistan's pineapple imports for 11M 2022 were:
- Costa Rica - 258.7 tons
- Kazakhstan - 155.6 tons
- China - 126.5 tons
- Ecuador - 84 tons
- Turkey - 28 tons
- Netherlands - 21 tons
