    Uzbekistan-Hungary boost agriculture ties: €150mn poultry project and 80-country exports

    The Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, engaged in a productive meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Uzbekistan, Jozsef Rozsa, to further discuss and strengthen the cooperative ties between the two nations, Government portal of Uzbekistan reported.

    The meeting underscored the robust and growing relations between Uzbekistan and Hungary, highlighting the pivotal role of the leaders' amicable rapport in fostering a stable and systematic environment for enhanced collaboration. Both sides expressed their commitment to working openly and transparently towards the mutual benefit of their nations.

    Minister Abdurakhmonov provided an overview of the current state of agriculture in Uzbekistan, emphasizing the ongoing large-scale reforms initiated under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He noted that these reforms aim to create a favorable investment climate, offering new opportunities for collaboration with large foreign enterprises.

    Uzbekistan's agriculture sector, constituting 27% of the country's GDP, plays a crucial role in the economy, with a total market size exceeding $22bn. Minister Abdurakhmonov highlighted that 26 mn tons of various agricultural products are annually produced in Uzbekistan, contributing to the steady growth of exports to over 80 countries.

    The meeting featured discussions on successful collaborations with Hungary, particularly highlighting the partnership with Bonafarm Group. An agreement has been reached to establish a poultry cluster in the Tashkent region's Ohangaron district, with the first stage of the project valued at €150mn. This initiative is progressing successfully, showcasing the potential for future ventures.

    In a collaborative spirit, the participants explored possibilities for joint projects, with a focus on further developing agricultural initiatives that can benefit both nations. Notably, discussions included the establishment of a cooperative framework between universities in Uzbekistan and Hungary. This framework aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the training of highly educated personnel in the field of agriculture.

    As the meeting concluded, both parties expressed optimism about the future of their bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the shared commitment to fostering economic growth and prosperity through collaborative agricultural ventures.

Uzbekistan and Hungary actively engage in ongoing dialogues within international and regional organizations, such as the UN, the OSCE, and notably, the OTS.
