Wholesale prices for tangerines in Uzbekistan continue on a downward trajectory, reaching unprecedented levels. EastFruit previously reported a significant drop of 38% in wholesale prices for tangerines in one week, primarily attributed to the influx of large shipments of Pakistani tangerines into the Uzbek market. Last week, this decline persisted, establishing new lows for this time of year.
According to the latest findings from EastFruit's price monitoring between December 8 and December 15, 2023, the average wholesale price of tangerines in Uzbekistan decreased from 10,000 to 8,000 soums/kg (equivalent to $0.81 to $0.65). This represents a notable decline of 20% over the past week.
This downward trend has been consistent over the past two months, except for a single exception. From October 20 to December 15, 2023, the average wholesale price of tangerines dropped from 29,000 to 8,000 soums/kg (equivalent to $2.37 to $0.65), marking a substantial decrease of 3.6 times during this period.
The recent decline in prices has further widened the gap between current wholesale prices and those observed during the same period in previous years. As of December 15, 2023, the average wholesale price of tangerines in Uzbekistan is 27% lower compared to the same date last year and approximately one-third lower compared to the same date in 2021.
The current wholesale prices for tangerines in Uzbekistan rank as the lowest among the countries monitored by the international EastFruit team in their weekly wholesale price assessments for fruit and vegetable products. As of December 15, 2023, the average wholesale price of tangerines in these countries stands as follows (in US dollars per 1 kg): Uzbekistan - $0.65; Georgia - $0.67; Tajikistan - $0.91; Moldova - $1.23; Russia - $1.28; Poland - $1.34; Ukraine - $1.90.
