On December 14, the second set of semi-final matches took place. Reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway triumphed over American Fabiano Caruana in the first semi-final, securing a 3:2 victory.
In the second semi-final, Abdusattorov was unable to maintain his lead from the first set. His opponent, Wesley So, won the second set with a score of 2.5:1.5, equalizing the overall score. The third set resulted in draws for both games, leading to an Armageddon game to determine the finalist. Unfortunately, Abdusattorov was defeated in this decisive match.

Abdusattorov and Caruana, who finished third in the tournament, will each receive a prize of $50,000. The second-place finisher will earn $100,000, while the tournament champion will take home a substantial $200,000.
Despite an initial loss to Carlsen on the first day of the tournament, Abdusattorov made a commendable comeback, defeating Denis Lozovik of Belarus and Americans Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana. The tournament, which ran from December 9 to 15, featured eight of the world’s top chess players.
