Uzbekistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ulugbek Lapasov, held a significant meeting with Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in New York. The discussions centered on the current state and future prospects of the collaboration between Uzbekistan and UNFPA, the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan reported.
During the meeting, both parties expressed their views on the depth of interaction, highlighting the strides made in empowering women, promoting gender equality, ensuring demographic sustainability, and enhancing maternal health. The UNFPA chief commended Uzbekistan for its substantial achievements in these critical areas over the past few years.
A particular highlight of the discussions was the positive acknowledgment of the outcomes from the November meeting in New York between the leadership of Uzbekistan's National Agency for Social Protection, under the President, and UNFPA. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation as outlined in the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding.
The meeting also addressed upcoming joint initiatives and international events, emphasizing the continued collaboration between Uzbekistan and UNFPA in areas crucial to sustainable development.

UNFPA has maintained its Country Office in Uzbekistan since 1993. Presently, the organization is executing its fifth Country Programme in Uzbekistan, covering the period from 2021 to 2025. The strategic plan underscores UNFPA's commitment to various key areas, including:
