The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has conducted training for 84 officers from the Border Guard of Tajikistan under the project "Stabilization of the Southern border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan," funded by the European Union, TASS reports citing the organization's program office in Dushanbe.
As per the report, a total of 84 Tajik border troops enhanced their knowledge and skills through training courses supported by the European Union. Specifically, 31 officers from the specialized border detachment in the Sughd Province underwent training in self-defense, survival techniques, improvised first aid in the field, radio communication, and topography. In Khujand, 22 officers received training in operational planning, briefing techniques, and risk management, while another 31 officers, including four women, underwent instruction in field medicine and the transport of wounded individuals at the border hospital.
The OSCE office's report highlights that the project aims to bolster the professional capabilities of Tajikistan's border troops and the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense. The primary objectives include combating illegal activities in border areas and responding to natural disasters.
In a previous development within the OSCE project supported by the European Union, vehicles and technical equipment were provided to Tajikistan's border troops in October. This included three Toyota Hilux 4X4 ambulances and two plotters for map printing. The specially adapted ambulances are equipped for mountainous terrain, featuring complete medical facilities to offer initial aid in emergency situations. The plotters serve field operations of Tajik border guards along the 1,350-km border with Afghanistan.
