Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov received Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Reza Najafi in Ashgabat.
During the discussion on the development of trade and economic ties, attention was paid to cooperation in the gas industry, electric power industry and transport.
"The parties emphasized the importance of visits and meetings at the highest and high levels in strengthening a constructive and trusting political dialogue between the two friendly countries."
The two countries are neighbours on the Caspian Sea and share a 1,148-km-long land border.
Experts told Daryo that in addition to two gas pipelines and several power transmission lines, the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational railway was built in 2014 through joint efforts.
Iran has traditionally supplied its northern provinces with electricity and natural gas from Turkmenistan.
Turkmenenergo State Corporation and Iran's Tanawir and Sanergy Pishro Export and Energy Promotion recently signed a $340mn agreement to build a new power transmission line from the city of Mary, Turkmenistan, towards Mashhad, Iran.
