Kabul is ready to implement the project of laying a power transmission line (PPL) along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route, TOLOnews reports.
Acting Afghan Minister of Energy and Water Resources Abdul Latif Mansour, said this at a meeting with Turkmenistan's head of international energy projects Murad Artykov.
Matiullah Abed, the ministry's spokesman, said construction of a substation in Herat is progressing rapidly within the framework of co-operation between the two countries and will be completed and put into operation before the arrival of winter.
Turkmenistan supplies its electricity through three lines to Herat, Andkhoy and Sheberghan.
"The electricity that Afghanistan imports from Turkmenistan has very high quality," said Amanullah Ghaleb, former head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
Experts told Daryo that the $1.6bn TAP project started in 2018 by Turkey's Çalık Energy but was suspended due to the change of power in Kabul in 2021.
"Under the TAP, Afghanistan expects to receive up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan and $100mn a year as transit fees for another 1,000 megawatts of electricity destined for Pakistan."
