Tomato prices in Uzbekistan have surged to 1.5 times higher than the levels recorded last year. This increase has been observed consistently over the past two months, with only a single week’s exception.
EastFruit experts have noted that this year’s wholesale prices for red round tomatoes have not only followed the usual upward trend seen in October and November but have also significantly surpassed the figures from previous years. This has resulted in record-high prices for this time of the year.
From October 6 to December 1, 2023, the average wholesale price for red round tomatoes in Uzbekistan saw an increase from 4,000 to 19,000 sum/kg (from $0.33 to $1.55), marking a 4.8-fold increase.
While the price dynamics for these products in October and November are not unusual, the rate of growth this year has significantly outpaced that of previous years. The wholesale prices for red round tomatoes in the last two weeks have significantly exceeded last year’s levels.
As of December 1, 2023, the average wholesale price for red round tomatoes in Uzbekistan is almost one and a half times higher than on the same date last year and 1.7 times higher than on the same date in 2021. Furthermore, the current wholesale prices for these products are at the highest level for the same period of the last five years. This trend indicates a significant shift in the market dynamics for red round tomatoes in Uzbekistan.
