On November 30, at the commencement of the II Global Forum on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Tashkent, Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, emphasized the forum's significance in conveying nations' achievements to the global community and fostering the exchange of mutual experiences.
Uzbekistan has, in a short span, implemented a distinctive system and gained experience in attaining sustainable development goals, unparalleled elsewhere. Notably, a Coordinating Council was established among government members to organize effective collaboration among ministries and agencies responsible for goal implementation. The country adopted global SDGs, objectives, and indicators to its national characteristics, adopting 16 goals, 125 tasks, and 206 indicators.
The primary role of the Coordination Council is to ensure the efficient functioning of ministries and agencies involved in national goal implementation, fostering interdepartmental harmony, as highlighted by Tanzila Narbaeva.
Chairwoman Narbaeva underscored extensive measures for ensuring gender equality, a prerequisite for sustainable development, enhancing employment effectiveness, providing decent work for the population, and creating stable infrastructure.
While acknowledging current achievements, Narbaeva expressed a commitment to addressing remaining challenges, particularly the development level of civil society institutions. Strengthening a sense of responsibility and mobilization within society is crucial for achieving national goals. As UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized, mobilizing civil society and the private sector is essential for realizing the SDGs.
The ongoing activities within the framework of sustainable development in Uzbekistan align primarily with these objectives, as per Narbaeva.
