On December 1, Shavkat Mirziyoyev is poised to deliver a keynote address at the UN Conference on Climate Change in Dubai (COP-28), a significant event that draws the participation of over 140 global leaders.
Notably, the President of Uzbekistan will assume a prominent role in the inaugural segment of the conference, following leaders from nations such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar, thereby establishing Uzbekistan as the pioneering Central Asian state to address the assembly.
The head of state arrived in Dubai on November 30 at the invitation of the UAE President Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayyon Al-Nahyat, signifying the diplomatic significance of this engagement. Commencing his trip, President Mirziyoyev's agenda extends beyond mere ceremonial participation, as he is slated to play a pivotal role in the plenary session of the Global Climate Summit.
Moreover, his itinerary includes a series of strategic engagements, featuring meetings and discussions with heads of state, foreign governments, international organizations, and key corporate entities.
As per the Presidential spokesperson, President Mirziyoyev is gearing up to introduce a comprehensive set of proposals and initiatives. These initiatives are designed to reinforce global, regional, and national efforts in combating climate change. Uzbekistan extends its explicit support for the initiatives put forth by the UAE during its tenure as the President of COP-28.
Central to President Mirziyoyev's address and advocacy is the urgent need for international collaboration in tackling climate change. His stance underscores the imperative for collective action, involving countries, influential international organizations, and civil society. The overarching goal is to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
President Mirziyoyev is anticipated to emphasize the importance of coordinated efforts in funding climate strategies and propelling initiatives in the realm of green energy. This aligns with a broader vision of fostering sustainable development and environmental stewardship on a global scale.
