Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR has opened an office in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, the Azerbaijani embassy reports on social network X.
Azerbaijan's Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov attended the opening ceremony.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmen oil is currently transported to world markets via Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan has been importing Turkmen gas since 2022 thanks to a trilateral swap agreement with Iran, which allows Baku to fulfil its contractual obligations to Europe.
The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project, which if realised will allow Ashgabat to sell its gas to Turkey and Europe, is becoming increasingly important.
In addition, SOCAR may become a partner in the joint development of the Dostluk frontier hydrocarbon field in the Caspian Sea.
