Uzbekistan has reasserted its position in the prune market, securing a spot among the top three global exporters of this dried fruit in 2022 and 2023. The EastFruit portal reported a substantial surge in Uzbekistan's prune exports, marking a key milestone in the country's agricultural prowess.
Uzbekistan's prune exports witnessed a significant spike, reaching 22,200 tons in 2022, reflecting a remarkable 2.3-fold increase compared to the previous year. This surge catapulted Uzbekistan into the elite group of the world's three largest prune exporters, joining the ranks of Chile and the United States.
During the first nine months of 2023 alone, Uzbekistan shipped 26,400 tons of prunes valued at $31.9mn to international markets. Analysts predict that by the year-end, the export volume could further expand to 35,000 tons, securing Uzbekistan's prominent position in the global prune market.
The driving force behind this impressive growth is attributed to Uzbekistan's active expansion into the Chinese market, a departure from its previous trade patterns. Notably, Russia and Kazakhstan experienced a sharp decline in dried fruit imports during this period.
For the first nine months of 2023, Uzbekistan supplied a substantial 16,000 tons of prunes to China, representing 61% of the total exports. This significant shift in trade dynamics underscores Uzbekistan's adaptability and competitiveness in the global marketplace.
