Uzbekistan has taken a significant step in safeguarding children by implementing a register of individuals barred from working in children's institutions due to convictions related to sexual violence against minors. Tanzila Narbaeva, Head of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, revealed that a government resolution.
The register is designed to include individuals previously convicted of offenses such as murder, defamation of a minor, distribution of pornographic materials involving minors, operating brothels with minors, and terrorism. The creation and maintenance of the register will be facilitated through a specialized information system, and processes related to the employment of individuals in the register will be closely monitored using this system.
While the precise operational details of the registry, including its accounting and monitoring mechanisms, are yet to be disclosed, Narbaeva emphasized that it aligns with amendments to legislation on the protection of the rights and freedoms of women and children.
These amendments, signed by the president in April 2023, introduced a rule prohibiting individuals convicted of harassment and violence against minors from working in institutions associated with education, child rearing, healthcare, and children's sports and creative organizations.
