Ashgabat is hosting a meeting of the heads of railway departments of the countries participating in the international multimodal transport corridor CASCA+ (Central Asia, South Caucasus and Anatolia+). Local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports that this project was created to increase the volume and efficiency of rail freight traffic towards China and Europe.
Delegations from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are taking part in the event.
"The main topics of the meeting are the strengthening of international cooperation between logistics structures, activation of the CASCA+ transport corridor, exchange of experience of the participating countries in order to realise the transport potential in road, sea, rail and air transport".
The countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus play an important role in transport and transit corridors in the Eurasian region.
The CASCA+ route is a continuation of the international multimodal Asia-Pacific-China-Kyrgyzstan-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Europe route.
In December 2022, a container train consisting of 46 wagons and 91 container units travelled over 4,000 km on the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Georgia-Bulgaria-Europe route.
It is expected that such container trains will run regularly on this route.
