The Russian firm “Schelkovo Agrohim” has inaugurated a new agrochemical production facility in Uzbekistan, according to the Russian Trade Representative Office. The joint Russian-Uzbek venture, “Schelkovo Agrohim Uzbekistan,” is situated in the “Urgut” free economic zone in the Samarkand region. The opening ceremony took place on November 17.
The newly established plant will employ over 100 individuals and is projected to manufacture more than 20,000 tons of plant protection chemicals annually. A portion of the production will be exported to neighbouring countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
Investments in the enterprise exceeded $30 mn, enabling Schelkovo Agrohim to receive tax benefits for a maximum period of ten years. The construction of the plant, which began in 2017, initially aimed to establish three production lines with a total capacity of at least 10,000 tons, with an estimated expenditure of $2 mn.
By the start of 2019, the project’s cost had risen to $3 mn. The launch date was deferred several times, including due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, the plant is now operational, marking a significant milestone in the region’s agrochemical industry.
