In 2020 alone, there were an estimated 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths from cervical cancer worldwide. About 90% of these cases and deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries.

Mirziyoyeva stressed that Uzbekistan is not exempt from this global health crisis. According to official data, every year 1,660 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in Uzbekistan, and over 585 women die from the disease annually. She declared that half-hearted measures are not enough to tackle this issue.

With the support of the UN Global Cooperative Programme, Mirziyoyeva called for concerted efforts to safeguard every woman in the country. She underscored the need for a robust system for diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care in healthcare.

Mirziyoyeva, along with her team responsible for the social sector, is working on a national plan aimed at creating the necessary conditions for the diagnosis and treatment of women across the country. She urged everyone to increase their knowledge about this disease for timely prevention and treatment.
